Fitness Strategies 9/16/09

Greetings Lobos!
Our Fitness Strategies class is now in week 7 of the block.
My students have learned many new movements and learned that being sore is okay after a workout session.
Some have lost weight, others have gained weight.
The students are challenged every day.
So far we have done a variety of different workout strategies.
Below is a typical day in our class.
Arrive at the Kino Center (our home : )
Dress out
Head outside for dynamic warm up:
- 5 lines of Lobos. Each excercise is done for roughly 20 yards in length.
- high knee run
- 'butt' kickers
- lunge walk with a twist
- 'kick outs'
- ' karaokas'
- ' lay up' plyometric jumps
- broad jumps
We then line up and go through some static stretching
- hamstring stretch
- trunk twists
- quad stretch
- groin stretch (sumos, butterfly)
- lower back stretch (models/'Hollywoods")
- core stretch (cobra pose, supermen)
- jumping jacks
We use a speed ladder to increase agility and coordination along with anything we can find in our environment to increase our stamina, speed, strength, balance and mental focus.

We then go into our workout for the day.

Today we did speed work and agilities using home made planks.
We stresses quickness both horizontally and laterally.
We then went over and proceeded to work our full body using a jungle gym set.
We started with 'Muscle Ups' which is a pull up that finishes with a dip (3-5 x)
We then used our body weight while moving down a negative slope keeping our bodies vertical.
We then performed a roughly 3 foot plyometric jump from the groud to a platform.
We finished with pullups using handles attached to the gym.

We break a serious sweat every day.
I thank the students for allowing me to train them and I have a blast every day!!
