Today was a "Quick Write Day" in our class.
The student's had to answer a series of questions relating to Alta Vista High School.
Part I:
- When people ask you where you go to school, do you honestly answer 'Alta Vista High School'?
- What is the first question they ask about Alta Vista High School?
- Do you defend your school?
Part II:
- What are you most proud of when it comes to Alta Vista High School?
- or -
- What is your greatest accomplishment to date at Alta Vista High School?
The students' responses were very honest and to the point. By a vast majority, our students love Alta Vista. The reasons are, but are not limited to:
1. Safety. Our school is safe.
2. Individual Attention. The students love the attention they get in their academics.
3. Higher standards. This one was surprising. There are many things our students have to live up to on a daily basis. They may not like it at first, but once they adapt, it is appreciated.
4. Teachers who care. This is tied into number 2 on the list.
5. I'm getting good grades and I passed the AIMS test here. What else needs to be said?
6. AVHS doesn't let its students settle for less. (These are the student's responses, not mine :) )
When it came to the second set of questions, they mirrored the first set.
Students are proud of their academic success and the chance to excell in our new AIA sanction sports.
Our students are proud of their school and are valuing their education.
I am proud to be their teacher and look forward to the next quick write.
