LOBOS WIN A NAILBITER 31-30!

The Alta Vista High School Lobo Basketball program won a hard fought game vs. the Greenfields Country Day Griffins 31-30. There is a maxim in sport that says 'it is never easy to beat a team twice in a season. This maxim proved true again tonight. The Lobos came out and led 14-4 after the first quarter and 20-9 at halftime. However, the Griffins put together a different game plan to take away the dribble drive capabilities of Angel Martinez with effectiveness. The second half proved to be a very competitive game with the Griffins cutting the lead to 27-29 with 1:30 to go in the game. The Lobos kept their composure and took the air out of the ball forcing Greenfields to foul the rest of the way. The Lobos were 100% from the free-throw line until the end of the game where they proceeded to to 1 for 6. Angel Martinez was fouled with 4.6 seconds to go in the game with Alta Vista leading 31-30. His shot was off but Glenn Brokman and Shaheed Clemens skied for the rebound ending a very physical game.
The Lobos were led by Shaheed Clemens 8 points and 14 rebounds.
Frank Leon added 7 points to the cause while playing with great intensity and passion.
The Lobos improve to 4-0 on the season and travel to Immaculate Heart Catholic tomorrow.
Coach Rod is very proud of the effort, class, and composure that was shown by the Lobo players. They played hard for their school, their community, and their teammates. Great Job by the entire team!
A special shout out to Coach Garrett for accompanying the team to Greenfields. You really hooked us up!
GO LOBOS!
